Patchwork Quilt of Players

 

For all of you that built and played the server thank you, you made the server a wonderful place to be, from the cobble boxes to the grand and I mean really grand builds you are all wonderful players, I wish we could honour you more but I will post pictures of some of the builds so everyone can see what a talented and creative bunch you all are, SONO would be very proud of you for making the server such a great place to be.

 

 

Some of you have said that you loved the server and felt like we were all a family, we are and where ever you all go you will always have that, SONO very much liked the family of players he had on the pizza server and never forgot them or the many antics that they got up to, he and many of the players from that server often spoke of it, sadly before my time on minetest but still always fun to listen to the stories.

 

A special mention for Sauran, one of SONOS oldest friends on minetest, he spoke fondly and always thought of you as a friend, wise words often said, I missed that in the times I didn’t see you on the server Sauran, you like SONO will always be an inspiration for me with your kind words and straight talking, you will always have my respect as did SONO.

Steve taught us admin much since he first took a couple of noobs and chose them to be the admin on his server, his frustration when I just didn’t understand or get what he was talking about while he was trying to teach me something was funny and frustrating at the same time, we hadn’t been playing the game for that long really, now it seems like a lifetime.  We have grown into the admin role, learning as we went, every now and then Steve would teach us something new, guide us in what we did until he was confident enough in our ability to care for the server and players, then he went back to what he loved doing, tweaking the technical side of things to keep the server running how it should do, he often threw ideas at us for different things knowing full well most of the time we didn’t understand what he was saying to us, all or at least most of what he said went over our heads but we were just his way of working things out for himself, I will miss that about him.

The SONO survival server was created on 14^th November 2018, it was created after the PI server wouldn’t restart after a update, in that very short time we have had some great builders, some not so much but most tried, true the small cobble boxes were a eyesore but most spruced up their abodes and made them look greater than they started, if I could name all of the beautiful builders I would but I have a terrible memory and although I want to name you all I have done what I can to take pictures of player builds, at least you will be able to say ‘Oh hey, that is mine’.

oMikekiMo and Hyrum_of_FreePizza  two of Steve’s friends from the ‘Free Pizza’ Server, when they were all online together would often be found talking about the good old days on pizza.

President_StampyCat and emma2014 ah our little Stampy always on the lookout for his emma, it was always endearing watching you two.

Today we had a little troll on the server bragging about a new server with the same name as ours, going against our wishes that the server be left alone to end, some nasty thief has copied all of the map and builds that we all worked to get where it is, I am both disgusted and extremely sad by the news of it, they know nothing of the love we all have poured into the server with our builds, instead they have copied (stolen) what they want, I won’t name them, I know who the trolls are as do they, may they forever get bugs in their software, be aware Steve doesn’t trust the person who has stolen the map and builds, he would never have given permission for it to be copied and used by them, they obviously have no morals, we prided ourselves on keeping our players safe, which is what Steve wanted all along, they have ignored our wishes totally for their own gain.

The server wouldn’t be what it is without Steve, he worked very hard at keeping it running smoothly, he really was a clever bean, he made me laugh as well as tetchy at times but we always talked even when irked at each other, long hours late into the night for him but early morning for us talking about this and that as well as sharing things we liked, the many hours made us all friends yet we only really knew a little of each other in the very short time we were a team, he shared his love for nature and told wonderful stories about things he has done, he made me laugh with his wicked humour even when in great pain he still tried to help the server, without telling us how much pain he really was in, that is the one thing he didn’t really tell us about, how bad the pain was, we miss our friend and his caring attitude for the players under all our care, the server was and will always be his as no one could ever replace him.

It took a while before I knew he had a cat, when I asked what her name was he said ‘cee a t’ or just cat, so I renamed her for him (as you do) she was always there with him through the good and bad times, fluffed his hair and groomed it when he’d showered and generally made a fuss of him, he said she’d often want to be alone for a few days, hiding in a room but she was there, the stories he told about her antics always made me smile from climbing over his keyboard when he was typing to sitting on his head, she must miss him as much as anyone seeing as she was with him at home always, Steve would be happy to know that his brother and co workers worked together to find Princess a home.

Over the time we have been on minetest we have gone on a fair few servers, some we liked more than others, one idea that we liked was on IFS IhrFussel's Server, his mine is where our ore room idea came from but when we found SONOS that is what felt like home and for the most part where we have been since finding it, we have met some really lovely players, like a patchwork rug of people we are all different but shared a like or love for the server and are a family of sorts, at times a crazy dysfunctional family but still one that I am happy to have been a part of, it is the feeling like a family that Steve often spoke about in regards to the Free Pizza Server, we had many players that came on and already knew Steve from that server, they’d talk about the good and bad times and would have loved to have got it going again but it would not have been the same server without the original owners input it would be just a shadow of its former self.

Strider and jrmiller ah you boys, clever, outspoken at times but good builders, always willing to help other players especially the noobs who didn’t know what to do.

BB988 Russian speaker which for me at least was difficult to translate our rules to him, which BB broke countless times, could track you across the whole map just to beg for stuff or decide to build next to you, it didn’t matter how many times he was jailed or had privileges revoked for his many rules broken he always came back to the server.

Sofix3 and clan, another good builder, also very patient with me when I spoke Spanish instead of Portuguese I will miss the very beautiful builds that she has done on the server.

The server although run by English speakers was always open to all languages which has only added to the richness of how the server is, seeing everyone chatting in their own languages and trying vainly to keep up with them all when they needed admin help has been both fun and frustrating at times, Steve often helped me out with the German as he understood that better than Google did, he’d often say something to me in German to see if I had remembered from a previous time but most times no, unlike Steve I have a goldfish memory for most things.

Where the ideas for the server came from.

Players get everywhere

Our sky spawn idea came from us admin going onto a few minecraft servers and seeing that some servers had the spawn in the sky, theirs was to stop monsters spawning near players, but it gave me the idea that if we had the spawn high in a dome that it would be less to buffer for everyone when they came into spawn.

The rainbow drop idea also came from minecraft, but they have them far grander than our little one, with obstacles in the way and players having to find the water to land in, which in some cases is one block wide, but I thought it would be fun for players to go down, ours has a button room at the bottom so players can leave the area. 

 The shopping area

Our shopping area has been one of my favorite places to build, I wanted all the shops to be different, some fun ones thrown in to make it easier for players to navigate around them, we have had some great sellers on the server, most very hard working at setting up and gathering the resources that they needed.

The Mayan Temple was a labour of love for personaone who built it, he made all the dungeons as we got the idea from a few servers on minecraft where we had made mob xp farms for ourselves and thought that players would love to get the drops from the mobs that way, one main dungeon with five others that had different mobs in.

The Farm with animals to either kill or tame was mine, it was a lot of messing trying to set up the spawners but with the help from our lovely Dark Lord we got them all working fine, some I have tweaked over time to produce more animals, I for one loved it as my survival nick Achelois.

 The ocean monument was made by me following a floor by floor plan, it is something in minecraft, most of the water was taken out so that we could put chests with free stuff in, just a fun build that added to the fun on the server.

Legend sometimes we had trouble understanding each other but you have shown that you care about others, forever grateful for the caring way you have shared the sad news about Steve.
